Phoenix PD takes 6 months to decide if brutal, on-camera beating of deaf Black man with cerebral palsy is “wrong”

Six months. That’s how long it took the Phoenix Police Department to decide if the brutal, on-camera beating of Tyron McAlpin—a deaf Black man with cerebral palsy—was “wrong”.

Two white officers punched, tasered, and choked Tyron. Then they lied and slapped him with felony charges to cover it up. Now, Phoenix PD wants us to celebrate their version of “accountability”: A 24-hour suspension and a training. That’s not justice…it’s PR.

Police do not hold each other accountable. They protect each other. This is the same department that conspired to target Black Lives Matter protesters and gave its own police chief a one-day suspension for the cover-up.

Every time the public gets outraged, they throw around words like “transparency,” “trust,” and “community” while continuing to brutalize and criminalize us.

We haven’t forgotten Tyron. We haven’t forgotten the lies. And we don’t believe in reforms that recycle the same violence.
