We cannot speak for them, but the People of the State of Minnesota spoke when they found Derek Chauvin guilty. But a guilty verdict isn’t enough. It could never be enough. In addition to public comments, Mass Liberation AZ alongside community organizations such as Black Lives Matter – Phoenix Metro, Poder in Action, and the People’s Law Firm, will be submitting nine citizen petitions demanding the City enact resolutions to hold the Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office accountable for their actions.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office filed a motion to dismiss charges in CR 2020-139581, without prejudice, (meaning charges can be brought up again at any time) against activists arrested during a Black Lives Matter protest on October 17, 2020. This comes after months of high profile arrests by Phoenix Police at protests against police violence that followed the murder of George Floyd and Dion Johnson.
