Rest in Power George Floyd & Dion Johnson
May 25, 2024, marks four years since the murders of George Floyd and Dion Johnson. George and Dion were two Black men who lived thousands of miles apart, in two different cities, but whose lives were stolen by the same anti-Black system that was designed to cage and kill our communities.
We continue to keep their families and loved ones in our hearts, and demand accountability for the countless Black lives taken by police violence.
The system isn’t broken – it was designed this way.
Four years later, what has changed? Our so-called progressive politicians promised to change things, but continue to pour millions of dollars into expanding police budgets instead. Meanwhile, Black people continue to be killed in the streets by police and in courtrooms by prosecutors and judges. And when we joined the global uprising in 2020, we were violently arrested and politically prosecuted by the State. Today, in the midst of a mass uprising for the liberation of Palestine, the same death machine that brutalized protesters in 2020 has been unleashed on college campuses.
We can’t fix what isn’t broken. The only way to stop police violence is to abolish police. The 2020 uprising for Black lives awakened an unprecedented number of people to this reality, and today, more than 7 months into a US funded genocide in Gaza, there is a new wave of awakening.
Rest in power, George & Dion. You have forever changed us.
