Attorneys, Protesters, and Community Organizers Respond to Allister Adel’s resignation

Today at 5:00 pm, Allister Adel’s resignation as Maricopa County Attorney becomes official. After over a year of public pressure, including community-led actions, dozens of rallies and protests, mass bar complaints, hundreds of thousands of emails, text and calling campaigns, thousands of petition signatures, complaints from Adel’s own staff attorneys, multi-million dollar lawsuits, and the unraveling of Adel’s lies… the voices of our movement for Black Liberation were finally heard.

Adel’s resignation is a victory for all of the people who faced the brunt of Adel’s abuses of power during her tenure as a prosecutor. It is also a win for every Black person in Arizona who has been told we are only five percent of the population or that our political interests are not a priority. The victory also belongs to Mass Liberation Arizona and the directly impacted protesters who took on the third largest prosecuting agency in the nation, not because it was politically convenient, but because it was a fight for their lives. And we won.

Mass Liberation Arizona announced a press conference with defense and civil attorneys, directly impacted protesters, and other community members to celebrate the moment Allister Adel’s resignation becomes official and to commemorate a historic win for this people’s movement. The celebration will include live music.
